While on a visit to Houston last November, I always include time to visit the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Traditionally, artists create master copies of paintings to learn from the masters. That tradition continues today in many museums. But here in Houston, "sketching permits" are only allowed. No full blown master copies here. Dry media only. So I head for the sculpture galleries and sit on my sketching camp stool and draw. Here as in my Christmas greeting I have created a pastel from the work of German sculptor Johann Wolfgang van derAuwere. This pair carved in Limewood were small roughly 15" x 11" x 11". Titled "Kneeling Angels in Adoration" they were displayed in a glass case in the round.
